True Messaging enforces opt-outs automatically, for texts, voice calls, and email, so your team never has to track them by hand.
Texts: what happens automatically
If a contact texts any of the following words to one of your numbers, they are opted out of texts from that number immediately:
STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or
QUIT. On Plus, your Office Manager can add custom STOP words per number; see
Office Manager - Messaging Settings.
A contact who texts START, UNSTOP, or YES to the same number is opted back in.
What you will see in the inbox
An opted-out conversation shows a status indicator in the thread, and the message box is disabled so a text cannot be sent to that number by mistake. If your team still needs to reach that contact, they can text a number the contact has not opted out of, or the contact can text START to resume.
Manual block and unblock
Select Block in a thread header to stop texting a contact without waiting for them to text STOP. Select Unblock the same way to resume. Manual blocks and STOP-triggered opt-outs both show in the same place, so your team always has one answer for whether a contact can be texted.
Text opt-outs are enforced per number. A contact who stops one of your numbers can still be reached on a different number they have not opted out of.
Voice and email opt-outs
Contacts can also opt out of voice calls and email separately from texts. Every email broadcast ends with a Manage your preferences link where the contact can opt out of email, texts, or calls. When someone asks over the phone to stop calls or email, an authorized user can record that on their behalf, as described below.
In Contacts, the Consent column shows each contact's current status. Open it to see one row per channel (SMS, Voice, Email) with the current status and how it was set, for example Texted STOP. From there you can record an opt-out a contact asked for, or remove one, with a reason.
The same screen can copy a personal Opt-out link for the contact. Anyone holding that link can change the contact's preferences for every channel, so send it only to the contact.
Broadcasts honor every opt-out automatically. An opted-out contact is counted under Skipped on the Scheduled page instead of being contacted.
